🇸🇦 ⚔️ 🇺🇸 SHOULDER TO SHOULDER WITH AMERICA
In the late 1970s, Saudi Arabia called for holy jihad against communism in Afghanistan.
And, inevitably, it stood shoulder to shoulder with America.
In the early 2000s, it was waging war on "terrorism" in Afghanistan—the very forces it had helped support in the late 1970s.
And once again, shoulder to shoulder with America.
It rallied the entire Arab world behind Saddam Hussein, hailing him as the "guardian of the Arab world's eastern gate" against Iran.
Incidentally, shoulder to shoulder with America.
Then, at the dawn of the 1990s, during the Gulf War, it mobilized the world against Saddam Hussein—who had suddenly ceased to be the "guardian of the Arab world's eastern gate."
And, once again, shoulder to shoulder with America.
In the 1960s, it stood against Gamal Abdel Nasser's Egypt—shoulder to shoulder with America. In the 1990s, it stood with Hosni Mubarak—and, naturally, shoulder to shoulder with America.
It stood among those accused of engineering the killing of Ibrahim al-Hamdi—and, of course, shoulder to shoulder with America.
Later, it backed Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi—and, once again, shoulder to shoulder with America.
It championed jihad in Chechnya—shoulder to shoulder with America. Yet it opposed jihad in Palestine—and, predictably, shoulder to shoulder with America.
Before Yemeni unification, it opposed the rulers of South Yemen—and, naturally, shoulder to shoulder with America. After unification, it became a patron of Yemen's partition—and still, shoulder to shoulder with America.
At the outset of its rise, it preached takfīr and journeyed into the Hejaz to spread its understanding of Islam—accompanied, at the time, by the British High Commissioner.
Today, it champions the "Era of Entertainment."
And, of course, shoulder to shoulder with America.
It once stood with Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi—a Twelver Shiite of the Safavid tradition—and it did so shoulder to shoulder with America.
It later opposed Iran's Islamic Revolution, despite the fact that both Pahlavi and the revolution sprang from the same nation and the same Twelver Shiite tradition.
But the distinguishing feature—as you already know—is this:
Saudi Arabia is always found standing on the same side as America.
