မနေ့ညက ဆရာတစ်ယောက် မေးထားတဲ့ မေးခွန်း အမေး။ ဆရာကြီးခင်ဗျာ။ 📍ချေကျင်တာ ကိုအင်္ဂလိပ်ဘယ်လိုပြော ရမလဲ ။ ဥပမာ ငါချေကျင်နေလို့ မထနိုင်ဘူး။ 📍နောက်တစ်ခုက ခေတ်နောက်ပြန်ဆွဲတာကိုရော မသိလို့ပါဆရာ။ အဖြေ။ စာလုံးပေါင်းအမှန်က "ခြေကျဉ်" ဖြစ်ရမယ်။ "ခြေကျင်" ကတော့ ကားနဲ့မသွား၊ လမ်းလျှောက်သွားတာ။ ကိုယ်ခန္ဓာအစိတ်အပိုင်းတစ်ခု ထုံကျဉ်နေလို့ ခေတ္တခဏ မလှုပ်နိုင်တာကို ပြောဖို့ စကားလုံးတွေထဲမှာ သိထားဖို့အလိုဆုံးကတော့ numb ဆိုတဲ့ adjective ပါ။ ဝါကျထဲမှာ "to be numb, to go numb, to be numb with cold" စသည်ဖြင့် သုံးတတ်ဖို့ phrase အလိုက်မှတ်ထားဖို့လိုပါတယ်။ အဘိဓာန်ထဲမှ နမူနာဝါကျတွေကို လေ့လာပါ။ I was lying in a weird position and my leg went numb. ငါ ထိုင်တဲ့ပုံမဟုတ်တော့ ခြေထောက်ကျဉ်သွားပြီ။ (my leg/foot goes numb လို့သုံးပုံကိုမှတ်ပါ။) My fingers were numb with cold. အေးလွန်းလို့ ငါ့လက်တွေ ထုံကျဉ်နေတယ်။ (to be numb with cold တွဲသုံးပုံကို မှတ်ပါ။) I've just been to the dentist and my face is still numb. သွားဆရာဝန်ဆီကပြန်လာတာ၊ ငါ့မျက်နှာ ထုံနေတုန်းပဲ။ pins and needles ဆိုတဲ့ idiom ကိုလည်း ထုံကျဉ်နေတာကို ပြောချင်ရင်သုံးနိုင်တယ်။ I’ve got pins and needles in my arm. ငါ့လက်မောင်း ကျဉ်နေတယ်။ asleep အိပ်မောကျနေတယ်ဆိုပြီး ခြေထောက်ကျဉ်နေတာကို ပြောလို့ရသေးတယ်။ My feet have fallen asleep and I can't stand up right now. ငါ ခြေကျဉ်နေလို့ အခု မတ်တတ်မရပ်နိုင်ဘူး။ tingle ဆိုတဲ့ verb လည်းရှိသေးတယ်။ My fingers and toes are tingling with the cold. ငါ့ ခြေထိတ် လက်ထိတ်တွေ အေးလွန်းလို့ ထုံကျဉ်နေပြီ။ tingling, tingly တို့ကိုလည်း speaking မှာ adjective လို သုံးကြတယ်။ ဒီလို ထုံကျဉ်တာကို ဆရာဝန်တွေသုံးကြတဲ့ medical term ကတော့ "paresthesia"ပါ။ “Paresthesia” is the technical term for the sensation of tingling, burning, pricking or prickling, skin-crawling, itching, “pins and needles” or numbness on or just underneath your skin. ဒုတိယ မေးထားတာက ခေတ်နောက်ပြန်ဆွဲတာ။ ခက်ခက်ခဲခဲ formal word တွေကို သုံးချင်ရင် retrogressive, reactionary စသည့် adjective တွေကို သိထားရမယ်။ တိုးတက်မှု၊ အပြောင်းအလဲကို မကြိုက်ဘဲ အရင် အမှောင်ခေတ်ကိုပဲ ပြန်သွားချင်တာ၊ ရှေးရိုးစဉ်လာအတိုင်း ဆက်လုပ်ချင်တာ၊ စသည့်အဓိပ္ပာယ်တွေ။ လွယ်လွယ် current expression ကိုသုံးချင်ရင်တော့ "turn back the clock" နာရီလက်ကို နောက်ပြန်လှည့်တယ်လို့သုံးတယ်။ "return to the dark ages" ကျောက်ခေတ်၊ အမှောင်ခေတ်ကို ပြန်သွားတယ်လို့ ပြောလို့လည်းရပါတယ်။ #မေတ္တာဖြင့် #ဒေါက်တာစိုးသန်း June 12, 2024
