Bint Jbeil is a historic city and the second-largest municipality in the Nabatiyeh Governorate of Southern Lebanon. Often historically referred to by Lebanese Shi'ites as the "Capital of the Liberated South," the city holds massive strategic and symbolic importance, positioned just a few kilometers from the border with Israel.
2006 Lebanon War: The town was the epicenter of some of the fiercest fighting during the 2006 conflict. During this war, Hezbollah forces successfully repelled multiple direct attempts by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to capture the town. Over the course of the systematic military campaign in 2026, the town was largely depopulated and faced near-total devastation. Over 1,500 buildings were reduced to rubble.
