NFP could be the next major catalyst for BTC.

October 2 at 12:30 UTC — September payrolls arrive ahead of the October FOMC.

The consensus expects 90K jobs and 4.1% unemployment. August surprised to the upside with 162K new jobs versus expectations of roughly 54K.

If September repeats that strength, the dollar could gain while BTC, gold and equities face pressure from renewed rate-hike concerns.

A weaker report could have the opposite effect, easing pressure on risk assets.

There's another factor to watch: BofA forecasts only 60K jobs, arguing that August benefited from unusually strong seasonal adjustments that may reverse this month.

Inflation surprised to the downside.

Core PCE came in at just 3.0% YoY, cooling more than expected and strengthening the case for the Fed to hold rates in October.

The first reaction: the dollar softened, while stocks and gold moved higher.

Meanwhile, BTC has another tailwind — US spot BTC ETFs pulled in roughly $2.4B in the week of Sep 21, the biggest weekly inflow in almost a year.

But the macro story isn't finished.

The next major checkpoint is US payrolls on Oct 2 at 12:30 UTC. A weaker labor market would further reduce the case for another hike.

Forecast for Core PCE YoY: 3.3–3.4%

Fed target: 2%

Inflation is still running above target, with energy adding pressure and core prices remaining elevated.

If PCE comes in hot: USD strength could weigh on BTC, stocks and gold.

If PCE comes in cool: risk assets could get some relief.

One more factor: Marc Chandler points to a methodology change in this release that may revise some inflation readings lower.

The latest numbers are positive:

BTC Spot ETFs: +$31M

ETH ETFs: +$17M

But here's what matters: price came first, ETF flows came later. The lag was roughly 1–2 days, so the next question is whether ETF demand can keep pace with the move.

Watch the confirmation:
BTC ETF inflows need to exceed $200M for 3 consecutive days, while stablecoin and on-chain flows also improve.

When these three signals align, the move has more underlying support. Persistent outflows, however, would be a warning sign.

BTC's dip may not be finished yet.

The problem? Leverage is still building instead of being flushed out.

US September flash PMI jumped to 58.4, marking the fastest output growth in more than 5 years.

At the same time, Brent moved back above $100, increasing concerns about additional Fed hikes. The 10-year Treasury yield also reached its highest level since 2007, putting pressure on risk assets.

But capital hasn't left crypto.

BTC ETFs recorded around $2.98B in inflows over 7 consecutive days through Sep 25.

BTC briefly dropped below $83K before recovering above $84K, while the Trump–Xi summit extended the tariff truce to Jan 10.

The key risk is leverage.

New longs are heavily concentrated above $85K.

If BTC loses $83K, forced selling could accelerate the downside.

Shorts got wiped out: BTC rose 13% in four days (Sep 17–Sep 21) and broke above $87K.

The most direct driver: the US and China are heading to talks and signaling goodwill. Gold fell and money rotated back into risk assets. Add shorts forced to buy back, and the price kept climbing.

Even more important is the money: price moved first, then ETF money followed, with nearly $1B flowing in in one day. Institutions are back. Bitwise's CIO put it bluntly: the crypto winter is over.

Two levels to watch: hold $90K and the next leg could start; lose $83K and reduce your position first.
