The NYSE owner is buying into the patents behind tokenized sharesIntercontinental Exchange, which owns the NYSE, announced a set of agreements with tZERO on August 31: it is investing in tZERO's latest financing round and receives a licence to its patent portfolio — 23 patent families and 103 patents covering the issuance and lifecycle of securities on-chain.
Under the memorandum tZERO becomes the premier design partner for the digital transfer agent and broker-dealer layer behind settlement on the coming NYSE venue, and, once regulatory and operational requirements are met, is expected to be designated an approved digital transfer agent there. The parties will separately look at taking tZERO tokenized assets as collateral at ICE clearing houses.
The venue itself — round-the-clock trading in US equities, fractional orders, instant settlement — was announced in January and still has no approvals: the agreement, on tZERO's site.
