How often do we let fear make our decisions for us? In today’s Gospel, Herod knew that John was a righteous and holy man and listened to him with curiosity. Yet when the moment came, he chose to protect his reputation rather than do what was right. Perhaps we can relate more than we’d like to admit — fearing what people will think, being left out, disappointing others, or looking foolish for standing by what we believe.

Following God doesn’t mean we will never feel afraid. It means learning whose voice deserves the final say. May we have the courage to choose what is right, even when it costs us our pride, comfort or reputation. Because we were not made to live for the approval of others, but to live in the love of God.
