The Chinese have turned the roof of an electric car into a solar power station: 400 kWh of free energy per year.

The company Hongqi has unveiled a prototype of the EHS7 crossover with a panoramic roof made from perovskite (an alternative to traditional silicon).

What it offers: up to 300 watts of power in sunlight and around 400 kWh per year. This is enough to power the car's air conditioner, refrigerator, and security system.

What's special: Perovskite panels are thinner, lighter, and more flexible than conventional ones, making them easy to install on the car's curved surfaces.

Plans: In the future, they plan to place elements on the hood as well. According to engineers' calculations, this could provide up to 10 kWh per day, adding up to 80 km of range for the car just from sitting in a parking lot.

The timeline for the release of the production version has not yet been announced.
