Tesla is launching the Cybercab on roads for the first time — a robotaxi WITHOUT A STEERING WHEEL AND PEDALS. Today, the cars will start driving in Austin.
Unlike the robotaxis based on the Model Y, there is physically NO PLACE FOR A DRIVER here: the Cybercab relies SOLELY ON CAMERAS AND AI, without lidar and radar. Remote operators will monitor the vehicles, and communication will be provided by Starlink.
And the most interesting part — responsibility. In a regular Tesla, the driver must keep an eye on the road, but here there is no one to monitor: if the Cybercab makes a mistake, the company itself will be the one held accountable.
