📖 Psalm 18:2 — NKJV
“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
David is not speaking about a distant God, known only through the mind. He repeatedly uses one powerful word: “my.” My rock, my fortress, my deliverer, my shield. This is the difference between knowing about God and knowing God personally.
When everything around us seems unstable, God remains the Rock. A rock is not carried away by the wind, does not change with the seasons, and does not collapse under the storm. What shakes you today does not shake your God.
He is your fortress: the place where your soul can enter when the enemy attacks. This does not mean there will be no battles, but it means that the battle cannot destroy the one who takes refuge in Him.
David also calls Him my deliverer. God is not only the One who comforts you while you are in the trial; He is also the One who intervenes, breaks chains, makes a way, and brings deliverance. You may not yet know how God will act, but you can know where you must take refuge: in Him.
Then David says: “My shield.” A shield receives the blows that were directed at you. How many arrows have you never even seen? How many times has God protected you without you even realizing it?
Finally, David declares: “the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” When you are too weak to sustain yourself, your security does not depend on your own strength. Salvation has power, and that power is God Himself.
🔥 Do not look for a rock in people, circumstances, or your own abilities. All of these can change. But the LORD remains.
When the ground beneath your feet is shaking, do not only look at the storm: climb upon the Rock.
🙏 Lord, You are my Rock. When I am weak, be my strength; when I am afraid, be my refuge; when I am surrounded, be my fortress. I do not want merely to know that You are God—I want to live knowing that You are my God. Amen.
