📖 Psalm 103:2 — “Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.”
There are moments when the soul finds it easier to remember what it lacks than everything God has given. We remember the closed doors, the prayers that still seem unanswered, the wounds, the tears, and the battles. But David speaks to his own soul and gives it a command: “Bless the LORD… and forget not!”
The soul needs to be called back to the memory of grace.
Forgetting the benefits of God can make us spiritually ungrateful, even when we still have so much for which to give thanks. That is why David does not wait until he feels good: he speaks to his soul. It is as if he were saying, “My soul, stop! Before looking at what you still do not have, look at everything God has already done!”
The word “benefits” embraces the idea of the good and merciful works that God performs toward us. And David says: “all.” Do not forget even one of them.
🙏 Do not forget when God forgave you.
🛡️ Do not forget when He protected you without you even realizing it.
🔥 Do not forget the times He lifted you up when you thought you would not make it.
🚪 Do not forget the doors He opened.
⏳ And do not forget even the doors He closed to protect you.
The psalm continues by reminding us that He forgives, heals, redeems, crowns us with lovingkindness and tender mercies, and satisfies our lives with good things. Spiritual memory nourishes faith.
When you remember what God did yesterday, you find the strength to trust Him today.
Perhaps today your soul is tired. Perhaps you have more questions than answers. But do not allow the present battle to erase from your memory the past faithfulness of God.
Speak to your soul:
«“My soul, bless the Lord! Do not look only at what you lack. Remember Who has sustained you this far. Remember the answered prayers, the deliverances, the forgiveness, the grace, and the protection. If God was faithful yesterday, He will be faithful today!”»
🔥 Gratitude does not deny pain, but it prevents pain from becoming greater than the memory of God's faithfulness.
Bless the LORD, O my soul… and forget not all His benefits. 🙌✨
