📖 “I cried out to You, O LORD: I said, ‘You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.’”
— Psalm 142:5 (NKJV)
There are moments when the soul reaches a place where no human being can truly understand, no earthly resource can sustain, and no door seems to open. It is precisely there that David cries out: “You are my refuge!”
David does not simply say, “Lord, give me a refuge.” He says: “YOU are my refuge.” His security was not a place, a favorable circumstance, or a person: it was God Himself.
Then he adds something even deeper: “You are my portion in the land of the living.”
The word portion carries the idea of an inheritance, an allotted possession. David is declaring: “Even if I lose everything, if I still have You, I have not lost my inheritance. You are what is enough for me. You are my treasure.”
🔥 This is the kind of faith that is born in the wilderness.
It is easy to say that God is enough when everything is going well. But when friends walk away, when answers seem delayed, when strength begins to fail, and the future looks uncertain, the heart is tested: Is God still my portion?
David spoke these words in a context of loneliness and oppression. Yet he refused to let the cave define his God. The cave was small, but his God was immeasurable.
Perhaps today you feel trapped in a situation from which you see no way out. But hear this: your cave is not your destination. If God is your refuge, no darkness can separate you from His presence.
🙏 Do not seek only a hand to pull you out of the trial; seek the face of the One who enters the trial with you.
Because there are places where you will discover that Jesus is all you have… and right there you will understand that Jesus is all you truly need.
🔥 When God becomes your portion, what you have lost can no longer define what you possess.
You may have little in your hands and still carry Heaven in your heart.
You may be surrounded by uncertainty and yet possess an unshakable certainty: THE LORD IS YOUR PORTION.
Cry out to Him today: “Lord, when everything around me is shaking, You are my refuge. When my securities fail, You are my portion. I do not belong to fear: I belong to You!” 🙌🔥
