How to Read Articles the Smart Way:

1. Choose the right type of articles

Forget novels — choose academic-style texts:
🧬 science & biology
🏛️ history & culture
⚙️ technology & environment
These mirror the IELTS passage style 100%.

Why?
Because the tone, vocabulary, and sentence patterns are academic — exactly like in the test.

2. Skim for the Big Picture (1–2 minutes)

Don’t read every word.
Glance through the title, introduction, and topic sentences.
Ask yourself:
• What’s the topic?
• What’s the writer’s main idea?

This builds your “Main Idea Readar” — a key Band 9 skill.

3. Scan for Details

Now, train your eyes to catch names, dates, numbers, and capitalized words fast.
IELTS questions love these.
You’re building scanning reflexes, not just understanding.

4. Keyword & Paraphrase Training

Pick one short paragraph.
Underline key words.
Then highlight how the writer paraphrases them:
• “increase” → “rise / surge / grow”
• “problem” → “issue / challenge / obstacle”

This is what IELTS questions test most — spotting paraphrase traps.

5. Mini Summary Practice

After reading the article, write a 1–2 sentence summary in your own words.
This improves your ability to compress ideas — perfect for Matching Headings and Summary Completion tasks.

6. Make It Active

Don’t just “save” the new words — use them.
📍 Mark unfamiliar vocabulary
📍 Translate or define it simply
📍 Write one example sentence

If you save but never use → you forget.
If you use → you remember forever.

7. Turn Articles into Mini-IELTS Tests

After reading, create 3–4 quick questions:
• What’s the author’s main idea?
• Which paragraph talks about X?
• What is the synonym of “rapid”?

This makes your reading exam-active, not passive.

8. Daily Routine (15–20 minutes)

Do this every day:
1. Read 1 short article (from BBC, National Geographic, The Conversation)
2. Apply the 6 steps above
3. Make 3–4 IELTS-style questions
