In 1934, Karachi was entrusted to the Dutch Franciscans. After independence, these regions that earlier fell under the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Bombay naturally separated after the Partition of India and Pakistan with the Indian Independence Act in 1947. Sindh and Balochistan became a part of the Diocese of Karachi which was formed in 1948.
