💼 Court strikes down Pentagon's blacklisting of Anthropic
U.S. District Judge Rita Lin ruled Thursday that the Trump administration illegally retaliated against Anthropic by designating it a "supply chain risk" — after the AI company refused to allow military uses of its Claude models it deemed unacceptable, such as autonomous warfare or surveillance of Americans.
Lin vacated the Pentagon designation, issued a permanent injunction, and denied the government even a seven-day stay. "The empty invocation of national security is not a blank check to punish and retaliate against government critics," she wrote, citing First Amendment and Due Process violations. Anthropic had filed suit in March in a California district court.
