❗️Mistral introduces “Le Chonk”: a trillion-parameter model
On October 6, Mistral launched the public API preview of Mistral Large 4, nicknamed “Le Chonk.” It is natively multimodal, with 1 trillion total parameters and 52 billion active parameters, according to the company.
Mistral says its aggregate evaluations put it ahead of open-weight models developed in the US or Europe, with strong results in cybersecurity, finance and manufacturing. It also reports that visual grounding can outperform closed frontier models. These are the company’s evaluation claims.
The model was developed in Europe and is served on Mistral’s own European infrastructure. The API preview is available now; the weights are planned for release by the end of October.
Before that release, Mistral is testing the model with cybersecurity specialists, vetted partners and public authorities.
