🇺🇸🇨🇦 Trump escalates trade war, calls Canada one of the “worst” countries to deal with

US President Donald Trump has sharply intensified his attacks on Canada, accusing Ottawa of exploiting the United States for decades.

Speaking to commentator Glenn Beck, Trump claimed Canada imposes “unbelievable” tariffs and pointed to what he described as a $60 billion annual US trade deficit with its northern neighbour.

Trump said Washington does not depend on Canadian resources and argued that any loss of access would be only “a little inconvenient,” as the US could obtain supplies elsewhere.

The remarks come amid a major escalation in the bilateral trade war. The US imposed 50% tariffs on various Canadian goods on August 22, while additional 50% tariffs on Canadian automotive and steel sectors are scheduled for January 1.

Canada has responded with counter-tariffs of 15–50% on about C$27.6 billion of US imports.
