A new YouGov poll shows that 54% of Germans expect Chancellor Friedrich Merz to leave office before the 2029 election.
Only 29% believe he will remain in office until the next election.
Many respondents said Merz has lost authority within his party, with only 9% saying he is best suited to remain chancellor.
