In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Press Release
The declaration of famine is a disgrace to the occupation and its supporters, and requires immediate action to stop the war and open the crossings.
The announcement by the United Nations Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) regarding the spread of famine in the Gaza Strip, and the confirmation by the World Health Organization that Gaza City is suffering from a famine extending throughout the Strip, represent damning international testimony to the crime committed by the Zionist occupation against more than two million besieged people.
It also confirms the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe our people are facing as a result of the ongoing Israeli aggression, which uses starvation as a tool of war and genocide against civilians, in flagrant violation of international humanitarian law and all international norms and conventions.
We in the Hamas movement emphasize the importance of this international declaration, even though it came too late, following months of warnings and the suffering our people have endured under siege and systematic starvation.
We have repeatedly warned that the policies of siege and systematic starvation, and the denial of food, medicine, and water to our people, constitute a full-fledged crime of genocide. Today, UN reports confirm to the entire world the extent of the humanitarian catastrophe our people are experiencing.
The criminal occupation's denial of this documented fact, and its false claims that there is no famine in Gaza, reveal a criminal mentality that deliberately lies to cover up the murder by starvation practiced against children, women, and the sick, in blatant defiance of all international laws and norms.
The international community, with all its institutions, bears an urgent legal and moral responsibility to stop crimes against humanity and save more than two million people facing genocide, starvation, and the systematic destruction of all aspects of life. In this context, we call for the following:
1. Immediate action by the United Nations and the Security Council to stop the war and lift the blockade.
2. Unrestricted opening of the crossings to allow the urgent and sustained entry of food, medicine, water, and fuel.
3. Legal accountability for the occupation's use of starvation as a weapon of war, as it constitutes a war crime and genocide under international law.
4. We call on Arab and Islamic countries and the free people of the world to take immediate action and pressure the occupation to end the war of extermination and ensure the flow of urgent humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
