The Kirkuk-based Hawar Theatre Troupe presented its production. The story of a woman who survived forced displacement captivated the expert panel
From August 18th to 23rd, the 8th Ostrovsky-FEST International Chamber Theatre Festival took place in Kineshma. The monodrama "Salma" received a special jury prize. The expert panel recognized the work with the following statement: "For its ability to convey the people's pain through personal acting feat”
The Hawar troupe was the only participant in the festival representing the Republic of Iraq and the Iraqi Kurdistan. The company's director, Najad Najm, praised the trip to Kineshma:
“We were invited as ambassadors of Kurdish, Iraqi, and Arab theater”
For the Troupe, this production became a way to bring the consequences of local conflicts to international discussion
Hawara Faris, who plays Salma, emphasized the importance of dialogue with the audience:
“Our performance at such a high level is not only an achievement for us, but also an opportunity to tell about the suffering of our people on one of the oldest stages of Russian theater”
