Radhakrishnan was nominated for the Nobel Prize 27 times, nominated, not won, but that volume of international recognition for an Indian philosopher writing in English, decades before India was taken seriously on the world intellectual stage, is itself extraordinary.
When he became President in 1962, former students asked to celebrate his birthday. He reportedly told them it would make him prouder if the day was observed as Teachers' Day instead. 🙏🙏
