Day 1 work in progress…A pencil drawing of a detail of Arno Breker’s The Avenger / Der Rächer relief.
The relief depicts a heroic warrior with a drawn sword in combat with serpents. It is a classical symbol, which depicts the fight against evil. It undoubtedly attracts its origin from Ancient Greece. Although the head bears the characteristic design of Breker, the body of the guard is reminiscent of many statues of classical or late antiquity. This was one of the monumental reliefs (5m high) to decorate the Grosser Bogen.
