💢 Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov summarized the September 5 talks between Vladimir Putin, US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Moscow:
• Witkoff and Kushner visited Moscow on President Donald Trump’s instructions to continue discussions on resolving the Ukraine conflict and other issues. Ushakov said this was already their eighth visit to Russia.
• The talks lasted 3 hours and 10 minutes and were described by Ushakov as substantive, constructive, extremely frank and confidential. Discussions continued both in a working format and informally over lunch.
• The Russian side gave what Ushakov called clear and comprehensive assessments of the situation in the special military operation, pointing to Russian battlefield advances and expressing confidence that the stated objectives would be achieved.
• Putin again stressed that any settlement must address all the root causes of the conflict and confirmed Russia’s readiness to continue working with the US toward political and diplomatic solutions.
• Witkoff and Kushner said they would use Putin’s observations and assessments during their contacts in Kiev the following day, particularly regarding a lasting peace settlement.
• According to Ushakov, the US representatives came well prepared. Alongside their interest in ending the fighting as soon as possible, they presented a number of ideas on possible paths toward a settlement.
• Putin also drew their attention to what he described as the Kiev regime openly revealing its nature through the reburial of major Nazi criminals. Ushakov said the American representatives “took note” of the point.
• The meeting was not limited to Ukraine. The sides also discussed economic issues in detail, including possible large-scale, mutually beneficial Russian-American projects.
• Ushakov said the talks were timely and useful for both sides. Putin and Trump will continue personal contacts, while the negotiating channel involving Witkoff and Kushner will also remain active.
