💢 Vladimir Putin opened talks in Moscow with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, saying the sides would discuss all aspects of a possible Ukraine settlement.
Key points from the public opening of the meeting:
▪️ Putin asked the US envoys to convey his best wishes and gratitude to Donald Trump, saying the US president continues trying to contribute to a settlement of the Russia-Ukraine conflict despite the difficult circumstances.
▪️ Putin said Moscow is ready to explain in detail how it sees the situation and discuss “all its components, all aspects.”
▪️ He noted that Witkoff and Kushner planned to travel to Kiev after Moscow, adding that contacts of this kind are useful regardless of what happens next.
▪️ Putin stressed that trust is crucial in mediation and said Russia finds it “comfortable” to work with Witkoff and Kushner, with Moscow’s level of trust in them remaining high.
▪️ Witkoff conveyed Trump’s best wishes to Putin and thanked him over the return home of American Robert Gilman. Putin replied that the Gilman family should also thank Trump, saying the release followed the US president’s initiative.
▪️ Witkoff also thanked Russia for agreeing to a temporary “no-shoot” arrangement involving Kiev and Moscow during the three-day visit, saying it allowed the US delegation to travel safely.
▪️ Putin clarified that Moscow had received a request through official channels, including intelligence-service and Foreign Ministry channels, specifically to suspend strikes on Kiev. He said he issued the corresponding order and that no Russian strikes had been carried out against Kiev since midnight.
▪️ Putin said the Ukrainian side had also sharply reduced strikes on Russian territory, including Moscow, describing the reduction as roughly tenfold.
▪️ At the same time, Putin stressed that Kiev’s publicly announced call for a broader three-day ceasefire had never been agreed with Russia.
▪️ He said Moscow would nevertheless do everything in its power to ensure the safety of the negotiating process, the US mediators and those accompanying them.
