Bill Gates warns that the "turbulent era of AI" is already upon us. It could eliminate entire job sectors, fuel fraud and deepfakes, make cyberattacks on critical systems easier, and reshape how children develop.
He’d back a realistic global effort to slow AI’s advance—but doesn’t expect one. Geopolitical and economic pressures, he says, are simply too powerful. In an interview with Axios, he warned that the current trajectory carries a high risk of negative consequences and criticized both major U.S. political parties for failing to act.
Gates suggests creating "jobs reserved for humans" and taxing robots and AI tokens, using the proceeds to support those displaced by automation. Still, he remains hopeful—especially for AI’s potential in agriculture, healthcare, and education.
