Nearly 96% of bilateral trade settlements between Russia and India are now conducted in roubles and rupees, according to Sberbank India. The direct payment mechanism effectively bypasses Western financial infrastructure, enabling rapid settlements within minutes despite a steep 12:1 trade imbalance where Russia reinvests surplus rupees into Indian debt, projects, and exports.
