The Ottawa City Council unanimously voted for the first step toward renaming Trump Avenue, a residential street in the Central Park area of Ottawa that has borne the name of the US president for nearly 25 years. Against the backdrop of the escalating trade war between the two countries and Trump's repeated attacks on Canada, some local council members stated that they consider the name disgraceful and do not want anything in Ottawa to be named in his honor.
Ottawa City Council member Tierney told CNN that among the proposals for the new name were: Obama Boulevard, Ontario Boulevard, Canada Boulevard, Gulf of Mexico Boulevard, Pelosi Boulevard, and even TACO Boulevard — a reference to the acronym “Trump Always Chickens Out.” To rename the street, at least 50% of the votes plus one vote from the street's residents must be collected.
