A young boy was afraid that other boys would bully him and snatch his dates. So he turned to Umar ibn al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه) for help. Not only did Umar listen, but he personally walked with the child until he reached a safe place.
No arrogance. No hurry. Just true care for the weakest in society.
Sinan bin Salma said:
كنت في أغيلمة نلتقط البلح ففجأنا عمر فتبعني الغلمان ، فقمت فقلت : يا أمير المؤمنين ، إنه مما ألقت الريح ، فقال : أرنيه ، فلما أريته قال : انطلق ، قلت : يا أمير المؤمنين ، فبين هؤلاء الغلمان الساعة ، فإنك إذا انصرفت عني انتزعوا ما معي ، قال : فمشى معي حتى بلغت مأمني
"I was among some boys picking dates when suddenly Umar appeared, and the boys ran away. I stood up and said, 'O Commander of the Faithful, these are just dates the wind has blown down.' He said, 'Show them to me.' When I showed them, he said, 'Go ahead.' I said, 'O Commander of the Faithful, but these boys will take them from me as soon as you leave.' So he walked with me until I reached a safe place."

It is mentioned in Dirasa Naqdiyya fi al-Maruwwat al-Warida fi Shakhsiyyat Umar ibn al-Khattab wa Siyasatihi al-Idariyya (2/592) that it is authentic (ṣaḥīḥ) through the chain of Ibn Abi Shayba.
