Reza Zanganeh, a 27-year-old man from Kalilabad village in Malayer, Hamadan Province, and a resident of Karaj, has been sentenced to death by the Karaj Revolutionary Court on the charge of “waging war against God” (moharebeh). He is currently held in Qezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, and his case has been referred to the Supreme Court for appeal.
According to Tavaana, Zanganeh was arrested at his workplace on April 3, 2026, one day after returning to Karaj from Malayer. He worked as a technician and mechanic specializing in luxury and foreign-made vehicles, and several nearby shopkeepers reportedly witnessed his arrest.
According to published reports, Branch 2 of the Karaj Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judges Sabzevari and Narimani, issued the death sentence. Zanganeh has also been accused of “collaborating with Mossad,” an allegation rejected by his family and relatives. They say the accusation stems from his professional work with foreign-made vehicles and previous work-related travel abroad.
No independently verifiable information has been made available regarding Zanganeh’s interrogations, the judicial proceedings, or the evidence relied upon by the court in imposing the death sentence. His case is now under review by the Supreme Court, and if the sentence is upheld, he will be at risk of execution.
