The charts give information about the age breakdown of members at the library called Little Chalfont, the proportion of loans by category, and the total number of loans between 2007 and 2016.
Overall, adults aged 18-64 formed the majority of library members, while those aged 65 and over represented the lowest percentage. In terms of loans, fiction books, both for adults and children, were the most popular categories, whereas children’s DVDs were borrowed the least. It is also clear that the total number of loans in the library demonstrated a general upward trend over the period, despite some fluctuations.
Focusing on the age distribution of members, those aged 18-64 accounted for the largest proportion, at 51%. This was more than double the figure for children, who constituted 22% of the membership. By contrast, young adults and adults aged 65 or above recorded the smallest shares, with their respective figures amounting to 15% and 12%.
As for loans by category, children’s fiction and adult fiction were the most frequently borrowed, each accounting for 38% of total loans. Next came adult non-fiction with 13%, twice the figure for children’s non-fiction, at 6%. The remaining categories – adult audio books, young adults, and children’s DVDs – made up only 2%, 2%, and 1%, respectively.
With regard to the total number of loans, it started the period at around 16,000 in 2007. This was then followed by a considerable rise until 2011, when it reached well over 20,000. Despite a noticeable drop to roughly 19,000 in 2013, the figure staged a recovery, finishing the period at around 22,000.
