Material Engineer

Key Responsibilities
Identify and determine the appropriate materials required for woodwork production.
Prepare material specifications and requirements based on drawings, designs, and production needs.
Calculate material quantities required for production and support material planning.
Inspect and verify the quality of timber, plywood, MDF, particle board, veneer, laminates, adhesives, hardware, and other woodwork materials.
Check materials received from suppliers against approved specifications, quantities, and quality requirements.
Monitor material consumption and compare actual usage with approved quantities.
Monitor and analyze material wastage and recommend methods to reduce unnecessary waste.
Coordinate with the Woodwork Shop, Store, Procurement, Design, Quantity Surveying, and Project teams regarding material requirements.
Maintain accurate records of material usage, wastage, stock, and production requirements.
Prepare material take-off and material requirement schedules when required.
Review technical specifications, shop drawings, and material samples.Ensure that materials are properly stored, handled, and protected to prevent damage.
Identify defective or non-conforming materials and report them to the concerned supervisor.
Support the development of standard material consumption rates for different woodwork products.
Assist in controlling material costs and improving production efficiency.Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly material reports.
Support the implementation of ERP or other digital systems for material tracking and production control.
Perform other related duties assigned by the Department Head or Management.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Materials Engineering, Wood Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Relevant experience in a woodwork, furniture, manufacturing, interior finishing, or construction environment is highly preferred.
Good knowledge of wood and wood-based materials, including timber, plywood, MDF, particle board, veneer, laminates, and related products.
Knowledge of material estimation, material take-off, inventory control, and material utilization.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills.Knowledge of ERP systems is an advantage.
Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications is preferred.
