Teddy Kinyanjui & Elsen Karstad in Kenya developed Seedballs Kenya, an innovative approach to ecological restoration.
🔹 What they do?
Indigenous seeds are coated with charcoal dust, a waste product, forming protective “seedballs”.
🔹 How does it help?
The coating protects seeds from predators and harsh conditions, while rain helps them germinate.
🔹 Why is it important?
Charcoal waste → Seedballs → New vegetation → Ecological restoration
It combines circular economy, low-cost technology, indigenous species and community participation.
