MY THYROID SUPPORT ARMOURY
Your thyroid does not work in isolation. It needs the right raw materials, and this is why I build thyroid support around FOOD FIRST, with carefully chosen supplements where appropriate.
My key thyroid-support nutrients are:
IODINE — required to manufacture the thyroid hormones T4 and T3. Food sources include seaweed, cod, prawns, dairy and iodised salt.
SELENIUM — important for the enzymes involved in thyroid-hormone metabolism and for antioxidant protection within the thyroid. Think Brazil nuts, eggs, tuna, sunflower seeds and mushrooms.
ZINC — contributes to normal thyroid and immune function and numerous enzyme systems. Oysters, beef, pumpkin seeds, chickpeas and cashews are excellent sources.
MAGNESIUM — involved in hundreds of biochemical reactions and supports normal energy metabolism, muscle and nervous-system function. Load your plate with spinach, avocado, almonds, pumpkin seeds and good-quality dark chocolate.
ASHWAGANDHA — an Ayurvedic herb rather than an essential thyroid nutrient, but one I include for its traditional adaptogenic role and support during periods of stress.
Then I have my supplement armoury: magnesium glycinate, ionic zinc, iodine, selenium and my shilajit with organic ashwagandha.
These are not substitutes for real food. They sit alongside a nutrient-dense diet — exactly as shown in my food chart above.

One important word on iodine: MORE is not automatically better. If you have diagnosed thyroid disease, particularly autoimmune thyroid disease, or take thyroid medication, iodine and ashwagandha supplementation deserve individual consideration rather than simply taking high doses.
Feed the thyroid. Supply the minerals. Support the whole body.
