Congrats to everyone who cleared mains! I’m penning down some… — Yimkum ( AIR 203 UPSC CSE 2022) — TG.ME

Congrats to everyone who cleared mains! I’m penning down some personal tips that worked for me during the interview: 1. Content-wise, I believe everyone who makes it this far is more than prepared with their materials so it is important to keep revising and brushing up . 2. Make sure to give a bit more importance to current affairs around the time ( month ) of the interview. To form informed opinion on things additionally, You can view debates /podcasts on youtube. There is even a healthy crowd of Naga channels on youtube/twitter on these. 3. Appearing presentable on the day of the interview:Invest in a good pair of trousers, a shirt and a coat/blazer. Get a clean shave , do your hair , the works . 4. Getting a proper good night sleep is important and that goes for not just the day before but for the entire duration between mains result and the date of interview. It helps you get rid of the sleep deprived look and you can look energetic and fresh. 5. A lot of candidates feel nervous and panic in front of the board. All preparation will go out the window if anxiety gets the better of you . The key to provide good logical succinct understandable answers is founded on being calm and composed during the interview. Mock tests definitely helps . If not , then mirror practice is a good simulatory practice. Your study partners can help set up mock panels too within the comforts of your home. Deep breathing, staying hydrated also helps. What i have also noticed is , some candidates while answering use gestures / hand motions to help drive the point home. I had a cup (even two) of coffee on the day of the interview but then I’m a caffeine addict so that’s a decision upto you. 6. Make sure you to reach a bit early on the date of the interview . We all know how bad Kohima traffic is! If you , however, reach late , the board will reschedule your interview to the last which definitely can create a bad impression on the board . 7. Trying to be chatty with the other candidates can help ease tension. After all, the interview is just like any other normal discussion .So starting conversations with others can help create momentum. 8. Never beat around the bush with your answers. A simple “ i do not know the answer “ is better than trying to pretend you have an idea of what you’re talking about. The panel sometimes will ask really ridiculous questions like “ the address of your shampoo manufacturer “. This more often than not is a question to unsettle the candidate. Be honest or try an educated guess. Any answer from u should have a logical foundation. 9. Do not sleep on the interview. Even if you feel you probably have scored very high in mains , the interview marks will usually decide where you land up on the merit list. All the very best !
