The Dragon’s Path: 10 Years of Skin, History, and Japanese Art 🐉
A regular client of mine flew in for another session—we are continuing the massive work on his back featuring a dynamic dragon. But few know how it all started 10 years ago!
* 10 years ago: We started with an unconventional cover-up on the forearm. The old lettering was covered with a dark catfish, while an engraving of a cat playing with a fish surrounded by waves and maple leaves was placed on the shoulder.
* The next step: The second sleeve—a stylized, light Asian tiger meticulously licking its paw.
* The finale (today): A majestic full-back dragon. We are executing this piece in a mixed technique: outlines are done with machines for absolute precision, while shading and coloring are done entirely by hand with rods (tebori). It is tebori that provides that unique velvety softness and a deep connection to tradition.
