EU to Ban Privacy Coins by 2027

The European Union will officially ban privacy coins like Monero and Zcash by 2027 as part of its new anti-money laundering (AML) regulations.

Under Article 79 of the AML Regulation (AMLR), anonymous crypto accounts and tokens that hide user data will be prohibited.
This will affect exchanges, banks, and crypto service providers, who will no longer be allowed to support privacy-enhancing assets.

There will be no exceptions for privacy coins.

Key points:
• Applies across all EU countries
• Platforms in 6+ countries will fall under direct AMLA supervision
• Mandatory KYC checks for transactions over €1000
• 40 major crypto companies will be regulated — 1+ from each member state

This is part of a broader EU financial reform also affecting bank accounts and safety deposit boxes.
