🇺🇸 A RARE PIECE OF AMERICAN HISTORY GOES ON DISPLAY
For Constitution Day 2026, the National Archives in Washington, D.C. is giving Americans a rare look at history: George Washington’s own annotated draft of the U.S. Constitution.
The historic pages contain Washington’s handwritten notes from 1787, when he presided over the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. The draft was produced before the final Constitution was signed on September 17, 1787.
For the first time, all seven pages of Washington’s annotated copy are being displayed together in the Rotunda of the National Archives Museum, alongside the nation’s founding documents. The special exhibit runs from September 14 through September 27.
📜 239 years later, the Constitution remains a living part of the American story.
Beyond the famous words “We the People,” documents like this reveal something important: the Constitution did not appear fully formed. It was debated, revised and carefully shaped before becoming the framework of the U.S. government.
