India's First & Only Telecom Manufacturing Zone in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh
The Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) is India's first and only dedicated manufacturing zone exclusively for the telecommunications sector, being set up in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
Target: over ₹10,000 crore in total investment
Concept & Design
• Modeled on the success of Special Economic Zones (SEZs), but tailored specifically for telecom manufacturing rather than industry in general.
• Aims to bring the entire telecom value chain under one integrated ecosystem — design, R&D, testing, manufacturing, components, semiconductors, optical fibre, telecom equipment, and allied industries.
• Supported by common plug-and-play testing infrastructure so companies don't need to build standalone facilities.
Governance
• A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) with representatives from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Government of Madhya Pradesh will jointly implement and steer the project — framed as an "unprecedented Centre-State partnership.
