💸 Surprising stats on selling digital products

It seems logical to launch one digital product, test demand, and only then create the next one.

But your buyer may be ready for a second product much sooner than you’re ready to make it.

We analyzed purchases made by 101,865 digital product buyers on Tribute and found a very telling pattern.

Only 13.9% of buyers ever purchase a second product from the same creator.

But after that, things change dramatically. Among those who buy a second product, 40.5% eventually go on to buy a third.

So the biggest barrier is getting buyers from their first purchase to their second.

And there’s another interesting number. Among repeat buyers, the median time between the first and second purchase is just 4.9 days.

What’s more, around 80% of those who return for a second product within six months do so during the very first month. In other words, interest in the next purchase often appears surprisingly quickly.

Here’s the practical takeaway: it’s worth thinking about your second product before launching the first one. It doesn’t have to be big. What matters is that it naturally continues the buyer’s journey.

Bought a guide → offer templates to help put it into practice.
Watched a lecture → offer a practical workshop or review.
Completed the basics → offer the next level.

So when creating your first product, ask yourself: “What will this person want to do next after getting their first result?”

The answer can often become the idea for your second product.

That second purchase looks especially important. Once it happens, roughly two out of five buyers go on to purchase a third product.

Bottom line: the first product proves that someone is willing to pay. The second starts turning a one-time purchase into a sequence.
