AMD rose sharply after the open to 475 - but we expect resistance there.We have no open positions on Wall Street anymore, as we wanted to close after last weekโs gains in stocks. Very good timing / position management from us. We are currently seeing thin trading.
โบ We are seeing investors remain engaged in the chip sector. NVDA is moving higher - for very good reasons - and investment banks are recommending buying more NVDA shares. I absolutely agree with that view in general. Positive pre-market trading in NVDA - currently around 0.5% higher - is supporting the Wall Street indices, as NVDA is the most important stock in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq.
โบ Tech/Growth stocks, but also defensive sectors, are trading lower overall. I expect defensive stocks to outperform today, but generally also expect some profit taking - including in chip stocks - even though they are currently seeing buying.
โบ Only energy is trading higher in US pre-market - but not for positive reasons. Tensions in the Middle East escalated again over the weekend, which also pushed energy prices higher.
โบ META is opening higher and we are selling this outperformance after META also benefited from settling a landmark child-safety lawsuit - although with a massive $17.1 billion settlement, around 1,200% larger than the second-largest Big Tech privacy settlement in history. In general, we see upside potential in META from here after an already disappointing performance over the past 12 months - particularly since August 2025, with the stock down more than 23% over 12 months. META is trading around 0.1% higher in late pre-market, near or slightly below 579.00. We are selling; I already sold in pre-market.
โบ We also expect further profit taking in chip stocks, even though it may not look that way right now - particularly in more expensive and higher-risk names. We choose AMD here, which is opening nearly slightly higher after the chip giant benefited from last weekโs strong NVDA earnings. We expect the chip sectorโs overall slightly positive performance to face some profit taking today.
