On May 2017, the onboard private security team, consisting of retired Turkish SAT (Underwater Offence) naval commandos, immediately returned fire to suppress the attack of two Somalian pirate ships. The intense moment when armed Somali pirates in small skiffs opened fire on a Turkish merchant cargo ship in an attempt to hijack it but met fierce resistance.
This showed the effectiveness of employing professional private maritime security companies (PMSCs) in high-risk piracy transit corridors.
