Crypto Speak: Sound money
“Sound money” is the concept of money that has stability and is able to retain its purchasing power over time.
The main characteristics of such money are:
1. Limited supply: To prevent inflation and preserve the value of money, its quantity must be limited or grow predictably.
2. Resistant to inflation: Your money should not lose value, allowing you to plan your financial future with confidence.
3. Independence: Ideal sound money is minimally dependent on government control, preventing artificial interference with its value.
As you can imagine, crypto can make this concept real. For example, theoretically, Bitcoin fully satisfies these three points. (Volatility is still an issue, but Bitcoin has more than 100 years of development to go before the last coin is mined.)
And, who knows, perhaps in the future, there will be another crypto that could one day be called true sound money.
