🕵️ A mysterious AI model appeared on OpenRouter. A week later, its identity was revealed.
On August 20, a model called Ox Alpha quietly showed up on OpenRouter with no company name attached.
It was completely free, had a massive 1M-token context window, supported text, images and video, and showed unusually strong results in coding, reasoning and complex agentic tasks.
Naturally, people started guessing who built it.
Some suspected Z.ai and a new GLM model. Others thought it might be an unreleased Microsoft MAI system. For several days, nobody had solid proof.
Now the mystery is over.
⚡️ Ox Alpha was GLM-5.3-Flash from Z.ai.
Z.ai intentionally released the model anonymously as a stealth preview to see how it would perform in the wild before revealing the name behind it.
Under the hood, GLM-5.3-Flash is a 320B-parameter Mixture-of-Experts model, with around 18B parameters active per token, built specifically for fast inference, coding and agent workflows.
So what looked like a random anonymous model appearing out of nowhere was actually Z.ai quietly testing its next GLM release in public.
