A new report from River, a Bitcoin financial services firm, highlights an important trend in crypto: self-custody is now the dominant practice among Bitcoin holders. 💡Some key statistics from the report: - 45.6% of the total Bitcoin supply (9.57 million BTC, valued at over $600 billion) is now held in self-custody. - Exchanges and custodians hold 36.1% of the supply. - Indirect exposure through ETFs and treasury accounts for 13.9% of holdings. River's report highlights the trade-offs of self-custody: complete ownership and no counterparty risk, but with increased complexity as all security responsibilities fall on the individual.
