— The U.S. Treasury has imposed sweeping sanctions on Iran’s remaining commercial aviation sector under “Operation Economic Outcast,” targeting 36 entities for supporting Iranian airlines, sanctions evasion, and aircraft procurement networks.OFAC designated 27 active Iranian airlines, including Iran Air Tour, Iran Aseman Airlines, Kish Airlines, Qeshm Air, and Zagros Airlines.
Treasury also suspended several aviation authorizations, including provisions that had permitted certain overflights and allowed non-U.S. carriers to fly U.S.-origin or U.S.-controlled aircraft into Iran.
The sanctions also target companies and individuals in the UAE, Türkiye, the UK, Malaysia, and Kazakhstan accused of supporting Mahan Air. The Treasury stated that some facilitated the transfer of at least three Boeing 777 aircraft to Mahan Air through the UAE and Oman during summer 2026, while others handled cargo including UAV components, industrial equipment, and U.S.-origin aircraft parts.
