— A Reuters analysis on the deadly September 1 strike that hit a wedding celebration in Kuhestak, southern Iran, points to a direct hit by a U.S. munition.Four weapons experts who reviewed verified footage and images said the damage was consistent with a munition detonating on or just above the building’s roof. One of them suggested a 500-pound air-dropped munition was used.
U.S. officials did not take responsibility for the direct hit, instead confirming that American forces struck the Kuhestak area that night, targeting a telecommunications tower roughly 135 meters from the wedding site. They said the U.S. is investigating whether the civilian casualties "were caused by a U.S. strike, some sort of ricochet of an Iranian air defense missile, or an errant interceptor itself."
Iranian media reports that five people died and around 70 were injured.
