— Nepal plans to rebuild and strengthen its landslide and flood early-warning system along part of its border with China, following last week's devastating glacial flood, Reuters reports.The new system will initially be installed at Timure in Rasuwa district and include seismic sensors, cameras, and a VSAT satellite connection, allowing monitoring stations to remain operational when mobile networks fail.
Nepal’s previous warning infrastructure was swept away during the floods without authorities immediately realizing it had stopped functioning.
At least 1,114 people have been killed across Nepal and China, while nearly 4,000 remain missing.
