For every topic, ask five questions:

What do the key words symbolize?
What tension or paradox is hidden in the statement?
How does it operate in an individual, society and the state?
When can the statement become misleading or dangerous?
What balanced ethical principle resolves the tension?

That five-question method can generate a mature UPSC essay even when the quotation is completely unfamiliar.
