Nifty closed 24,055.80, down 24.60 points (−0.10%). It opened at 24,077.55, pushed to 24,143.15, then broke to 23,952.55 before buyers reclaimed 24,000 into the close — a mid-range finish that hides a volatile session. Monday's strong Bank Nifty close at the high found no follow-through.

IT (+0.98%, finishing near its high) and FMCG (+0.94%) led; Realty (−1.42%) and Auto (−1.22%) lagged. India VIX was unchanged at 11.19 — complacency, not fear. Overnight the S&P 500 fell 0.33% and the Dow 0.70%; gold slid 1.51% and silver 2.31%, while WTI firmed 1.95%. GIFT Nifty at 24,050.50 sits just under spot, pointing to a flat-to-soft open.

Nifty

Range-bound. A third session of chop between 23,950 and 24,150, with the index defending 24,000 on every dip. Neither side has control until that band breaks.

Bank Nifty

Opened below Monday's closing high, sold to 57,150.70 and settled at 57,409.60 in the lower half — a clear failure of Monday's breakout attempt. Underperforming Nifty by nearly a percent is the day's biggest tell.

Conclusion

A defensive rotation dressed up as a flat close: money left banks, autos and realty for IT and FMCG. Watch whether Bank Nifty holds 57,150 next session — losing it drags Nifty through 23,950.
