The House narrowly adopted a rule Monday teeing up a floor vote on a resolution that ๐๐จ๐ง๐๐๐ฆ๐ง๐ฌ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ง๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐๐๐ฌ ๐ฌ๐จ๐๐ข๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ฌ๐ฆ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐ข๐ญ๐ฌ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ฆ๐ฌ, naming the Democratic Socialists of America directly and opposing the implementation of socialist policy in the United States.
The same rule also sets up action on the ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ฆ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ ๐๐๐ญ, which would require proof of citizenship to register to vote, close loopholes Democrats have used to block voter ID, and tighten election security ahead of the midterms.
The vote broke down in an unusual way. ๐

House Democratic leadership admitted they had no warning it was coming. ๐๐ฉ๐ข๐ต ๐ค๐ข๐ฎ๐ฆ ๐ข๐ด ๐ข ๐ด๐ถ๐ณ๐ฑ๐ณ๐ช๐ด๐ฆ, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark said.
Speaker Mike Johnson called it a win on both fronts. The DSA now has dozens of candidates on ballots nationwide this November, and Republicans are betting that forcing Democrats to go on record defending socialism, on camera, is a fight worth having before voters decide.
The resolution still needs a Senate that Republicans donโt control outright to act. For now, the House has drawn its line.
