In the UK, a former RuneScape developer was sentenced after using internal access to recover player accounts and take virtual gold and rare in-game items from them.
Those items were then sold for real money.
According to the case, the total value was around £364,829 — roughly $490K. 😳
The most interesting part isn’t even the amount — it’s what the story says about digital items. They’re increasingly treated as more than “just pixels,” and more like real property with real value.
